Sort of sick

In case you don't catch yourself up on all things in the world of Alexa, I'm sick. But it seems like everyone has been catching the crazy cold, the freak flu, or the spiteful strep-throat. To everyone experiencing winters plague to your cells, I'm here to help you through it all. I'm not exactly a doctor and can't heal you with some magical meds, but I can give you things you can do to make your days at home less painful. And I've got a few tricks up my sleeve considering I haven't been able to breath through my nose for close to three weeks.

1. Play Pretend
Having a small photo shoot can help you get into character

Ah yes, grab that tiara and strut your stuff. You can be a princess, a Kardashian, (well that's basically the samething), a superhero, your favorite animal, you name it. I find that connecting with your inner fashion-star helps everyone overcome their sickness, especially if you keep the act up all day, even in public. Guys don't be afraid to rock that princess look, if my brother can do it so can you!
He wanted to be like me, It's pretty obvious why.

This seems a bit silly, I know, but I don't actually mean it literally. The best thing that you can do for your self is convince your system that nothing is wrong at all. After you've loaded up on your morning douce of advil, just try to keep your day as normal as possible. If you pretend you're not sick you usually don't feel it. Although, I've never tested the princess thing; if you would rather give that a shot I say #yoloit.

2. Learn from Aurora
Sleeping beauty may have been under a curse, but you better believe she woke up feeling better than ever. Alright, so a thousand years of sleep would probably make your back hurt, but still. When you're sick, sleep is the best thing in the entire world, it's like magic. So rest up and hopefully you will clear away those nasty germs. If you are stuffed up and having trouble getting to sleep in the first place you could always take NyQuil or something of those sorts to help you rest.

3. Tea ;)
If you know me, you know that I will take any excuse I can get to sip on hot cocoa or tea. I love it (heart eye emoji). And a piping hot cup of tea can, AND WILL make your throat feel better whether it's stuffy or dry. Now that I am in my "zone" I've got a bit of educating that I need to do.
I usually get my own pictures, but this look like heaven so....
For everyone that is not a tea drinker, there are two common additions to tea, both of which have different purposes on a ill throat. The first on is honey. The thick stickiness of honey coats your throat with what I think of as a syrupy layer. If your throat is feeling dry or starchy honey is the way to go because it will help keep it damp. The other add-on that you can put in is lemon juice. The acid in lemon will cut through the mucus in your throat. And as gross as that sounds, when you are sick it feels like heaven.

I don't really know if I have told you anything that you couldn't hear from anyone else on earth but I hope that if you are sick you get better, because I know the feeling.

Get well soon my fellow quirks, I'll blog ya later

Snowy Sweets

IT'S HERE! The snow has fallen and we Parkites are well on our way to a winter wonderland. Right now you might be jumping our of seat to go grab your skis, pulling on a santa hat that is way to big for
you, running to the store to buy a carrot and buttons because you're gonna make the most epic snow man ever! Or maybe you're just looking solemnly at your shorts and tank-top wishing that it was still summer. Whether your heart is singing with delight or you are simply dreading the winter, just hold on tight, because here are some delicious treats that make winter well worth the wait.

1. Obviously hot cocoa! It's warm and sweet and kind of makes you feel like your in the North Pole. Everyone knows marshmallows are to best part, especially when they melt and make it extra sweet. And even though this is a winter themed blog...this is kinda good always. Need I say more? No.
The ceremonial first hot chocolate of the season with my cousin.

2. Pulling a Pavlova
Taking a pretty picture of food is a lot harder than it looks.
A Pavlova is a Meringue made the way the 1920's ballerina Anna Pavlova liked them, soft and chewy in the center topped with whipped cream. In fact, it's the way that I like my meringue too. #twinningwithafamousballerina

My Pavlova is made with whipped eggs and fine sugar then cocoa powder and vinegar is folded in to the mixture, then baked for around an hour. (I promise you can't taste the vinegar, it just helps it cook.) After it's taken out of the oven it's topped with the best kind of snow, (whipped cream,) pomegranate seeds, and extra chocolate meringue crumbles.

Well if your mouth isn't watering after that, you must be an alien and I think that I'm gonna have to call the FBI. Seriously though, the crisp outside of the meringue and the delicate whipped cream both provide a light and airiness that reminds me of snow, but it's supper rich and creamy so it still leaves you with that wonderful warm feeling inside. And because pomegranate season is the beginning of winter, they always taste amazing for a winter dessert.

3. Ginger Bread, Yum. These adorable little friends are crisp and sweet. Made traditionally with ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. All of these flavors are things that remind your taste and smell of the holiday season. Now or course the best part about these cookies are the decorations. You can go the traditional route and use simple icing and gum drops for decoration, and other simple candy's can spice it up a tad. Or you can just go crazy with a house and a roof and everything! Making a true piece of art is hard though if you don't get one of those cheesy cheater kits from Walmart.

Hope I've inspired this depressed generation to make something beautiful. #Canyoudoit? #yesyoucan

Schedule SOS

It's that time of the year again! And as much as I hate to say it, I don't mean the holiday season...or ski season, or (in my case) Nutcracker season, or any other season you're looking forward to.

Girls in last years Nutcracker worried over what else I might be talking about... (Photo Creds)
I'm just gonna say sorry now because, I'm talking about the wanting to rip your hair out strand by strand. The uncontrollable crying that even your favorite blanket, a great stuffed animal, and some cat videos can't fix. Seriously, is it just me of is it that time of year where it seems like trying to balance the world on your head while dancing the tango and battling a tiger would be easier than your overflowing schedule. It's enough to make a person go insane. Thankfully that terrifying feeling runs in my family and I've got a few ways to make it better.

1. Weekends don't end work. I hate to have to tell you that your weekends can't be all fun and games, because it just won't work. This is the one thing that I personally have the biggest problem with. Doing homework over the weekends? Kind of sounds like mediaeval torture if you ask me.

I have personally started taking on this tip and I can honestly say that I think I've gotten at least part of my sanity back. By getting all of your homework done as far in advance as possible you'll avoid that oh-crap-that-huge-project-is-due-tomorow-and-it's-already-eleven-at-night-not-to-mention-I-haven't-started-yet feeling. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. So weekends may not be and end to school work but they sure can put an end to those rotten late night crises and study sessions.

2. I can barely even say it. I hate to admit it, but sometimes all you can do is cut back. Take a day off from that sport your doing. Forget about that group project, they can do it with out you for one day. Get a class change into an easier class. It's all okay. And coming from me that sure as anything says a lot!

3. Do it for love. As awful as it feels to have so much going on, if you ask me (or are reading this) I think that as long as you're busy because you love your activities, It's completely worth it.

Me at one of the Dance shows I gave up my Sunday's to be in
And I know that even though sometimes I'm doing my impossible math homework and it feels like life would be so much easier if I just had more time, the minute I get to the dance studio, I know it's completely worth it all. I can honestly say that if you don't feel the same way about what you're spending your time doing, you should try something else! Because there is no logical reason to take on so much, and that's why it's called love. Oh my god, that was so cheesy I can't even stand it! Someone call a publisher I'm gonna be the next John Green.

So pull on that thinking cap, grab an energy drink, hit the gym (gotta be fit if your gonna take on such a heavy work load! Good one, Alexa), and let's lose our minds together!

Oasis Overflow

Did you know that UEA break was originally started for Hunting Season? Well I hardly doubt that very many of us Parkites spent the weekend with a gun and orange clothing, and that's exactly what this post is all about!

Okay, so that didn't really make sense. No, I will not spend all five hundred words on Park Cities lack of hunters, but I will be talking about having an awesome Vacation! No matter who you are and what you do you usually are looking forward to that day off. The trouble is, if you don't spend those precious moments wisely you could very well be left feeling a bit lack luster. So it's time to play SPEND THAT DAY THE RIGHT WAY! What ever you pick, you better believe that that oasis will reflect upon who you are!

Happiest Place on Earth
Now that I've gotten you all thinking about Disney Land and/or Disney World, I would like to point out that these are definitely two of the biggest vaca spots in the world, and with good reason. Going to Disney is a great way to get away from everyday life and have a mini adventure, the possibilities there are positively to Infinity and Beyond.

Second Grade me Enjoying the Parade!
I will admit, Disney is certainly not for everyone. If you're looking for a way to wind down before you have to get back to everyday life, this may not be the best option. Also if crowds are not your thing, I would not recommend this (especially if you're going over a popular school break.) Now, if you just aren't as much or a little kid at heart you could always go to a different theme park for more extreme rides and less princess costumes.

Caribbean Cruisin'
Ah yes, the cruise. The elegant decor, open waters, grommet cuisine, endless beaches. WOW, I'm getting pampered just thinking about it! If you can afford the luxury of a cruise ship, they sure seem to provide something for everyone. They are great places to relax and/or get in touch with your wild side during shore excursions! From rock climbing to Ice skating it seems like the ships themselves have everything imaginable.

Just a Bar Made Completely of Ice on A Ship...
However, if you get sea sick at all, you would probably be better off staying on one of the islands. I definitely believe that a cruise actually isn't perfect, shocking right! Personally, I think that staying in one place and being able to explore the area is really nice too, which you don't get when you're in a different place everyday! I actually prefer just staying on one island.

Stay-cation-tastic
I bet I could tell you a million different things to do right here in Park City that you've never tried! I would just need a few years to think about it... Seriously though, there are tons of activities that you haven't experienced right around you. Liza just did an entire post on why staying home is totally rad, so check it out ya'll!

Shoutout to Me for Being an Adorable Child
If you love skiing, as many people do around these parts, stay-cations are a great time to hit the slopes from opening to closing! Plus you can go out of town every break, so make sure you have fun while at home.

What ever your vaca fill is, just have fun doing it! See you next vacation, whether it be on a roller-coaster, sandy beach, or the seemingly ice cream covered slopes!

Not-before-noon-itis: We can Find a Cure

This post is all about sugar, spice, and daybreak advice!

Who doesn't love mornings? The birds chirping with delight, as you gracefully roll out of bed with smoothed hair and a clear complexion. After your long shower, you make your way down stairs surrounded by calming morning music where you meditate. Then your personal driver leads you outside into the beautiful sunny day around noon, and you take the scenic route to school.

The more scenic route to school (Photo of WikiMedia)
Not exactly like your mornings? Weird.

Actual picture taken on my drive to school
Nevertheless, each morning doesn't have to be as painful as you think. Please silence your personal electronic devises, return your seat to the upright and locked position, lower your tray tables, and make sure to review the safety card in the seat pocket in front of you. Other than that, sit back, relax, and try not to fall asleep because you woke up at six this morning.

1. Alarm. When you see that word do you think: snooze, just five more minutes, or shut up? If so, you probably suffer from notbeforenoonitis | nät-biˈfôr-no͞on-ˈʌɪtɪs | (I totally made that up. Shhh, don't tell.) If you suffer from this fatal condition, as many do, never fear there is a cure!

The easiest things you can do is make sure your Alarm Clock is out of arms reach when sitting on your bed. Depending on how stubborn you are about sleep, it might be helpful to have a family member hide the clock in your room, so you are literally forced to go on a mad search it before it stops beeping. At that point the bitter frustration and ringing in your ear should have woken you up.

2. Coffee! This one's a bit debatable. It kinda depends on how your body reacts to caffeine early in the morning and whether or not you personally need that energy surplus. Personally, coffee makes me feel like a phone on vibrate, yet somehow I'm still tired... However I know this is a crucial ingredient to a good morning for lots of my friends. (Sense they're my only readers I thought I should include it.)

For those of us that can't drink coffee, or maybe just don't like the taste, try a smoothie or juice. I like to make a smoothie before school because it's a delicious way to get nutrients, and the natural energy is more effective for me. These can make and entire breakfast, especially if you add yogurt for dairy and protein powder.

3. Music. Ya, that weird music thing I mentioned earlier. It actually works. Its scientifically proven that listening to music can improve one's attitude, (I made that up too), so I suggest making a playlist of your favorite uplifting music that you can listen to before your first class. Personally I usually listen to Birdy and it really does help me get through those fatal morning hours.

Morning can be awful but if you merely 'pretend' they aren't, they might not be so bad.

Briefing you on Braids and Bows

Straight, curled, or slightly waved
It seems to never just behave
Up, down
Loose or tight
I'll teach you how to get it right

Hopefully you enjoyed that superb piece of poetry written by yours truly! It was inspired by my latest obsession...wait for it... hair! I have found that the way a person arranges their hair is also a huge clue into who they are. Naturally, I had to post about it because this is exactly the type of thing I want to share on Bellezza! My goal is to show you some fierbulous (fierce and fabulous) hair options for everyday, and not so everyday, occasions.

Lusciously long
Mia Taylor's hair that makes me self-conscious

The title kind of explains this look. Luscious, and so on. Now if your hair just isn't as giftedly long as Mia's, then you can always use a flat iron and your favorite no frizz product to still get a straight smooth effect and add some length. The trouble is that it can get a bit boring after awhile, so spicing it up with a side braid and/or hair accessory will add an extra touch of personality.

Dyed, Dynamic, and Dramatic
Milly Routledge of my Creative Writing class
Okay. Okay. I know that this looks really similar to the last look, but bear with me. Dying your hair, although it's kinda #totscrazy it's also, like, #totseffective. (Did you like that sassy slang? Ya I'm hip.) Seriously though, dying your hair can totally help you switch it up, so take that freedom to be and look how you want.

WARNING: If you don't want to make a huge splash by showing up to school looking like you hired someone else to take your place, I recommend changing the color slightly over time with multiple hair appointments. However, if your goal IS to make an impression, I say grab some bleach and lets do this thing!

(Alexa would like you to please note that she does not in any way support ruining your hair with bleach, and would not actually like you to do so.)

Up, Up and Away for Any Day
Kali Peirce's personality fitting Princess style braid

I'm sure you'd figure this out fairly fast, and also probably don't care but... I LOVE BRAIDS! I have definitely saved what I think are the best for last!

The picture to the right is a #perf example of showing who you are. Kali is possibly the sweetest and most caring person I know, so this adorable Disney Princess like half-up-half-down braid fits her perfectly! I encourage y'all to figure out a hairstyle that is to you like this princessy style is to Kali.

A Not so Everyday Up-Do
Morgan Yokubison's spruced up ballet bun!
I don't understand this hair style. All I know is if you are capable of creating such beauty, you deserve a serious award. Congrats, Morgan.

But seriously, this is such an amazing way to express yourself. Plus it's a stylish way to keep your hair out of your face. So if you want to attempt something like this, I say why not? Although if I were you, I'd have some detangle spray on hand.

...and this is the top...

(Morgan please report to the front office immediately to pick up your Nobel Prize, thank you.)

As you can tell, there are a wide arrange of different hair styles that are all options for an everyday look. I hope this wasn't as redundant and useless as I know it was. But nevertheless the only way to tell if I improve at this whole blogging thing, is to follow Bellezza!

Why yes, I did just tell you to follow my blog in a horribly cheesy way.

XOXO still not gossip girl...

Sep 13, 2014

So this is how you blog...

I'm gonna be honest with you. I have no idea what I am doing. Alexa doesn't know if this blog should be written in third person or first person? Regardless, I'm excited to write for you all. As I think you will all find Alexa isn't your average teenager, but then again what is average? Well we're/I'm/Alexa's not really sure. But that's kinda the fun of it! Everybody's different. So who are you? Well, frankly Alexa couldn't tell you. I barely know myself,

This is me pretty much everyday of my life.  Please view Alexa as shocked Adelaide in Guys and Dolls below.

Photo curtsey of Egyptian Theater
(I've decided first person sounds the best.)

I know I'm a theater geek, and I have been from the start! People say life is about finding who you are. It somehow seems to be the base of most books. And in the end, the journey of finding themselves is what makes them. It seems everyone has had a point in there life where they have had to stop and ask themselves who they truly are. Except me.

Because I am a Super Hero!

Just me saving innocent children yet again.

Alright you caught me! I'm not that kind of super hero, I'm just a girl who a girl that actually understands who she is and where she belongs. If you ask me that's pretty special. I am on a secret mission to help people find who they are too! One room decoration, playlist, and hair style at a time. These are just some of the fun defining things that I'll be showing you on Bellezza! Because here on Bellezza, It's all about you! So sit back relax and lets figure it all out!

XOXO I'm not gossip girl but I need a tag line.
